There is a great early season opportunity for anyone interested in becoming a race official. The OCA currently has a shortage of officials and, although it’s not mandatory, having a certified official in the CCC would be a great asset for all members.
Have a look below for details.
There is an unfortunate lack of local officials in the Ottawa area, which means higher costs to your events because of the need to import from across Ontario. We would like to help you remedy that situation by holding a Provincial Road Commissaire course in Ottawa during March.
We have tentatively booked an instructor for the weekend of the 23rd-24th and would like you to put the word out to your teams/club for anyone interested in becoming a race official. Aside from the obvious direct financial benefit to your organization, there are other great reasons for people in your group to take part, including:
– Helps racers and coaches understand the rules better
– Required if you want to be a competitive event organizer or team manager
– Can volunteer their time as a race official for your group
– Helps develop future leaders of your organization
The cost of the course is $100 per participant, but if they move on to become a licensed official by completing the practical portion of the process in the summer, they will receive a rebate of $75. The course is run over two full days and there is an exam at the end of the course. Participants will be required to read certain sections of the UCI rulebook prior to attending.
Please get back to me as soon as possible as space is limited in the course. If there is enough interest for a different weekend, we may consider moving the course to one of the prior weekends in March. If you need some help with promo material to send out to your group, I would be glad to assist.
Looking forward to hearing back from you!
